 Loyalty, people throw that word around a lot, but often I wonder if they really know what it means. So, to get technical for a moment, the dictionary defines it as, “faithfulness to a cause… loyalty also means devotion, honest to a person or thing.” With all of the recent drama in my life rooted in the concept of loyalty, I decided to blog on it.

 When I first decided to switch modes from graphic designer to “promoter” a lot of people looked at me strangly. A lot of old friends suddenly wanted to be current and some current friends wanted to be past, initially I was taken back. People say a lot about “me”, but I’ve always been just that, “me”. No matter what a comrade may or may not be doing, I support them anyway.  I’ve seen former high school all-stars turn dope fiends and former high school scape-goats turn multi-million dollar business man, but no matter what their current state of being may be, I treated them as an equal. Knowing this, it was hard to accept some peoples distaste with my recent career selection. One person’s response practically struck a chord with me (but I’ll get to that in a moment).

 I stated previously that I got into this game doing graphic designs, but looking into it all little closer, it actually started before that. Actually, I began this journey when I was still a sophomore at Rockhurst High School, passing out paper flyers for local events; a crony as some might say. Thinking back, I can remember how it felt, hitting all the malls, house parties and gas stations, painting the town in red 4×6 flyers, I wasn’t getting paid, my boys and me were not mentioned anywhere on the flyer, but I felt a part of something bigger than myself, I felt a part of a movement, a family.

It’s always funny to me when I meet someone; they always ask me “am I from here” following with “I’ve never seen you before”. For 8 years “me and the cronies’” stood loyal (in the background) as the companies name & members changed like the weather. At the end of the day, none of that mattered to us, the money, fame, or women didn’t matter, we were just happy to be a part of something (what I wouldn’t do for 5 more people like that now). But as time went by, i grew wiser, older and more mature, I started to see it for what it was…and a crony i would be no more.
